Beyond Recruitment.
Building Leadership Foundations.

A six-phase methodology refined across hundreds of engagements to consistently identify, evaluate, and place exceptional leaders who create lasting organizational value.

Why Methodology Matters in Executive Search

Executive search is not a transaction — it is a strategic intervention. The wrong leader at the wrong time can set an organization back years. The right leader, identified through rigorous process and placed with precision, can catalyse transformation.

Our six-phase methodology ensures that every engagement is approached with the intellectual rigour, market intelligence, and senior attention that the gravity of executive leadership decisions demands.

01

Strategic Discovery

Every engagement begins with a deep discovery process. We do not accept a job description and begin searching — we invest time understanding your organization's vision, strategy, culture, and the context in which your next leader will need to operate.

This involves structured interviews with the board, key shareholders, direct reports to the role, and other relevant stakeholders. We examine organizational dynamics, leadership culture, and the specific challenges and opportunities the incoming leader will inherit.

The output is a detailed Mandate Brief — a strategic document that goes far beyond a conventional job specification to define the success criteria, cultural imperatives, and leadership qualities required for transformational impact.

02

Leadership Mapping

Drawing on the Mandate Brief, we develop a comprehensive Leadership Map — an analytical framework that defines the ideal candidate profile across multiple dimensions: functional expertise, sector background, leadership style, governance experience, and cultural alignment.

This goes beyond competency frameworks to explore the deeper leadership characteristics that distinguish transformational leaders from merely capable ones: intellectual curiosity, resilience under ambiguity, the ability to build and inspire high-performing teams, and the judgment to navigate complex stakeholder environments.

The Leadership Map becomes the lens through which every candidate is assessed throughout the engagement, ensuring consistency and rigour from the outset.

03

Market Intelligence

Armed with the Leadership Map, our research team conducts a comprehensive market intelligence exercise. We systematically map every potential candidate universe — identifying senior leaders in target organizations, sector adjacencies, and international markets who meet the profile criteria.

This is proprietary, bespoke research conducted specifically for each engagement. We do not rely on databases of registered candidates — we identify leaders who are performing exceptionally in their current roles and who would not be visible through conventional search approaches.

We also provide market intelligence on compensation positioning, competitive talent landscapes, and any market factors likely to affect candidate availability or decision-making.

Executive Assessment

Every candidate on our longlist undergoes structured assessment before being presented to the client. We conduct in-depth interviews focused on specific competencies, career achievements, leadership style, and cultural alignment — assessed against the Leadership Map developed in Phase Two.

We probe deeply into specific situations and outcomes, examining how candidates have navigated comparable challenges, built teams, driven change, and responded to adversity. We evaluate governance awareness and readiness for the accountability that comes with senior leadership.

Only candidates who genuinely meet the brief — not merely those who are the best of those available — are presented. We will tell a client if the brief needs adjustment rather than compromise on candidate quality.

05

Governance Alignment

As the search approaches conclusion, we facilitate a structured governance alignment process. This ensures that the preferred candidate understands the expectations of the board, key shareholders, and other governance stakeholders — and that those expectations are realistic and clearly articulated.

We manage the negotiation process with sensitivity and expertise, ensuring that commercial terms, role scope, and expectations are aligned before any offer is extended — protecting both the client and the candidate from misunderstandings that could derail an otherwise successful appointment.

We also conduct comprehensive reference verification — structured conversations with senior former colleagues and board members who have observed the candidate in comparable leadership contexts.

Placement & Ongoing Advisory

Successful placement is the beginning of our relationship with the leader and the organization — not the end. We provide structured onboarding support, working with both the incoming leader and the organization to ensure a smooth and successful transition into the role.

In the months following placement, we maintain regular contact with both the organization and the placed leader — providing counsel, facilitating dialogue, and ensuring that the conditions for success are in place.

Many of our client relationships extend across decades and multiple engagements, built on the trust established through exactly this kind of long-term advisory commitment. We measure success not by the moment of placement, but by the impact our leaders create over years.
